Moss off the roof, the careful way

Thick moss holds damp against the tiles and drops into the gutters, which is where a lot of South London damp problems begin. We clear it the careful way, by hand and soft-wash rather than high pressure, so the tiles are protected and the moss stays away for longer. The gutters get cleared of whatever comes down too.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do you pressure wash the moss off?
No. High pressure strips the surface off the tiles and can crack older clay and concrete. We scrape the moss off by hand and then apply a soft-wash biocide at low pressure, which kills the moss and algae at the root so it carries on weathering away after we leave. The tiles are left intact.
Will the moss grow back?
The soft-wash treatment keeps working after we leave, so the roof stays clear far longer than a scrape alone. How long depends on the aspect and the trees around you. For a badly affected roof we can apply a stronger or repeat treatment.
